longevity

Articles on the web about metastasized breast cancer speak of survival rates in months. But, everyone I know seems to know someone who has blasted past their cancer odds and are still here. Its probably good to know about both.

Will has always had the biggest foot for his age. At 13 he is now wearing a size 13. He typically thinks shoe or clothes shopping is a waste of time and never needs anything new even if his clothes are 2 sizes too small. I was surprised when I said, "You need new shoes" and he said, "Yes." I offered to take him to Dick's but he said he wanted to go to a real shoe store. I asked what he thought was a real shoe store and he said someplace he could get Converse or Polo (brand names I've never heard come out of his mouth). We went to Academy tonight and he looked and texted someone up and down the shoe aisle. He said he wanted Vans (another brand name I've never heard him mention). We ended up at the Vans store at the mall and he came home with a pair he seemed pleased with. I told his dad about this experience and he hit the nail on the head. "Gotta be a girl."

  1. As I know you know, you aren't a statistic :) Also knowledge is power.

Two clichés in one post... not really, because I honestly believe both of them to be true.

I loved the Will story. I agree, it must be a girl. I'm impressed. It took me many years to figure out what a "real shoe store" was!
